Discussion:
[Tikiwiki-users] Using plugin "map"

Hi *,

I am using Tiki 15.4 (LTS) and I want to place a map with some point of
interest on a wiki page. The POI should show some information in some
sort of pop-up (Mouse-over or by click).

I was thinking of using plugin "map" and I am able to show the map. But
I don't know how to show the poi. Should I place the information about
the poi in some sort of file or should I use a tracker? How should I
configure the tracker?

Any help would be welcome,

Karsten

Karsten, I have a suggestion. You most certainly can do what you want to do
with some configuring, I just read the docs at
https://doc.tiki.org/Pluginmap

But I think the most compelling way to do this, and I plan on doing it this
way, is to have CartoGraph as a second tiki site for my main tiki site.
Are you familiar with Cartograph? It has already built in everything you are
wanting to do.

I have a wiki for woodworking, and I am going to create the Cartograph 15.4
site as soon as Luci is done with the 15.4 version and he gets it working.
Should be anytime soon. My Cartograph is going to allow folks to upload
images of trees, and the lumber that is derived from that species of tree,
and the region the tree is found.

I think Cartograph is the way to go. But if you want map per pages with a
pop up, then it looks like some configuring is going to have to take place,
above my knowledge right now.

Hi John,

thanks for Your answer.

I know the page about "Plugin map" You mentioned, but unfortunately I
have some missing links with the content. There are examples with
"searchlayer" and there are trackers mentioned. But I don't know how to
put this together. How are the trackers to be configured?

I think cartograph is a little bit oversize for my purpose.

Best regards,

Karsten

Hello Karsten,

you could consider to install a cartograf as a personal test and demo
instance - stand alone with a subdomain.

There you could experiment and get more used to the concept how (OSM)
maps are handled in Tiki nowadys.

A usermap or similar would likely be a different setup, but imho quite
similar to some extent.

A map with a POI should be quite very similar, if not identical, as a
cartograf with the difference that at cartograf you have many POIs on
many maps. You want one POI on one map.

Anyway the cartograf trackers create POIs and put them on maps with
arbitrary icons ("needles"), descriptions and legends.

Torsten

Hello Karsten,

Following the information at https://doc.tiki.org/Pluginmap <https://doc.tiki.org/Pluginmap> I successfully set 3 tiki using maps.

For POI I set my trackers as follow;
Name (text) for the POI label
Icon (file) for the POI marker
Location (location) for the place to place the marker
Published (checkbox) a switch to set if it should be displayed

That should do it.
You can add a description field so on "click" (or mousehover, not sure) more text should be displayed.

Hope this help

Hello Bernhard,

thanks for the hints. I will try them.

The wiki page about the plugin map lacks some information:

I wonder how the "MAP" with the "searchlayer" is working with the
tracker data... From the wiki-page:
{MAP(..)}
{searchlayer ...}
{MAP}

What do I have to place in the searchlayer parameters? How are the
trackerfields get interpreted? By type? (A field of type "location" is
the location of a POI? But what about other types?)

In the first example the tracker fields are listet but not the tracker
(which one is
used?)(fields="tracker_field_fieldname01,tracker_field_filedname02").

In the second example there is a geo_located=... and a tracker
identified by ID but no list of tracker-fields.

The next example has no tracker and no fields in the searchlayer. How
does this work?

Than there is a File option mentioned. This sounds to me like a XML-
File with the POI used for the map. If this would be correct, it would
solve my problem. But there is no example of this.

Best regards,

Karsten

Hi Karsten,

The searchlayer parameters (should be within plugin map) can be very simple:

IE : {searchlayer tracker_field_publishedOnTheMap="y" load_delay ="1"}

This is good enough to tell the plugin to display all trackeritem with a field "publishedOnTheMap" = y (the published checkbox field I mentioned early for example).
Note: load_delay make sure other layers (area) are loaded before the markers.

You can have all object mixed together with other item in different tracker. I prefer to have a tracker for area, a tracker for markers (sometime a tracker per markers), etc.
So I can use different switch to display or not different elements on the map, change all the marker icons with a single instance, etc.

Fiel type location is used for POI, fielf type file (geojson) for area

Karsten, did you ever have any luck getting a tracker item to display on a
map? I have none, I have gone through all the documentation, used the
supplied example syntax for displaying tracker in map, and I have had zero
luck, perhaps it's my tiki17? Whatever it is, it aint working. Frustrated, I
also have a question out to the community at
https://tiki.org/forumthread65661?topics_offset=1
and
http://tikiwiki.1073613.n5.nabble.com/Hey-guys-I-really-need-some-help-tp38847.html
But I aint getting any luck with or going anywhere.

Patience! Must have patience!
